Education – the basis for a dignified life
Background
By training professionals in different areas of knowledge, the Horizontes Colombianos Corporation strives to empower the population, providing indigenous youth with access to university studies in different careers, chosen by them.
Within the program, 15 indigenous people from different ethnic groups in Colombia, men and women, have completed their higher education studies with full and partial support from the CHC and have fulfilled their commitment to the Corporation, distributing their required knowledge to their native communities and transmitting their experiences during their stay at the university and therefore in cities such as Bogotá, Palmira and Medellín.

Present
Education, as a fundamental right, ensures that ethnic minorities such as indigenous and Afro-descendant communities in particular have an active role in the social and cultural development of the country. Marginalized for centuries, they have suffered violence and contempt for their culture by society in general, due to an immense indifference. By accessing university studies, people have the opportunity to make themselves known and be equally at the same level of opportunities as their white and mestizo peers, exercising their intellectual capacity and sharing their ancestral knowledge.
